Review: 'The Muppets' the Disney 2011 remake is a musical and fun return to grace for the fuzzies

The Muppets (2011) G

Disney used their attractions at Disney parks, created by the late Jim Henson before his death in 1990, and bought the rights to the Muppets in 2004 from Brian Henson. The show went to DVD some years ago. After the lackluster ratings for their 1999 movie, Muppets in Space, Disney reinvented the idea while sticking to the character names and trying their best to copy the original voices. The result is an odd road trip slash return to grace comedy where two misfit adults and the Muppet brother journey to Hollywood to meet the Muppets, only to discover in the 11 years they’ve been gone, they have moved on. The supposed old studio looks like it’s bee abandoned since 1980, which is weird, but okay. James Segal and Amy Addams ham it up on their wacky attempt to reunite the fuzzy gang again for a telethon, as they need the money or an evil oil tycoon will take the land. Actually it’s a very nice and fun send up to the original first two films and harkens back to the Henson voices well. They even toss in ‘The Rainbow Connection’ and an 80’s robot. The move is safe and cute. It just came out. Someone the family will want to own.
