Review: 'Dick Tracy' is shameless nod to actor and nothing like the classic

Dick Tracy   PG
The problem with this movie is Warrne Beaty taking over the whole thing, writing, directing and starring in it. The script is terrible. The story just gives a bad taste in the mouth after being watched. Not once does it appear he's ever Dick Tracy, the comic book hero from the 30s. He's Warren Beaty talking into a watch wearing a bright yellow longcoat. With Hoffman, Madonna and Pachino, one would think it's a hit, but no, it suffers from too much Beaty. Also it's 1990 and the target audience doesn't know Dick Tracy at all. He would have been the hero of their grandparents. A series of movies over the years kept the name around, and in terms of better productions, go check out the 1930s and 1940s versions.
