Review: 'Iron Man 2' has too much talking but still has nice battles

Iron Man 2   PG 13
Jon Favre returns to the Iron Man story and introduces a new villain, Whiplash, in this fun but overlong sequel. Robert Downey Jr. returns as Stark/Iron Man, and his sidekicks are back also, with some new faces as well tossed in for good measure. The actors are all pretty good and well known, Rourke, Paltrow, Downey, etc., but really Sam Jackson steals the scenery as the pirate eye patch SHIELD commander. So the science is a bit loopy and there is no way to project computer laser images onto thin air without smoke, or make a new device out of a model of a city, but ignore that and strap on for the ride. The sequel has fewer battles, but the characters make up for it. If only Transformers 2 had been this smart. And Rourke was hilarious as the Russian bent on getting his freak on with a whipping vengeance.
