Review: 'Warrior' has moments of drama amid mixed fighting bouts

Warrior   PG 13
Gavin O'Conner helms this Rocky meets the MMA flick with some of Bull Durham tossed in, and old Nick Notle hoping for an Oscar nod. The show runner is actually Notle, while the two brothers carrying on emotionally strapped about the death of their mother, and their old feud, seems predictable. Cameos by actual fighters are neat if you know who they are, but this reviewer did not, so when the audience would go, ooh, he can't own that guy, it was lost on me. The action sequences were choppy but fairly similar to what can be seen on the cable channels. The acting of the two male supporting cast was fair, but it was hard to tell which brother what which during some darker scenes, where they displayed the same kind of disconnect or yelled a lot at their Dad on the beach, or in front of a house. Not a bad dramatic movie but it's clear Nolte is the star. Not sure it's Oscar worthy. But neither was The Blind Side.
