Review: 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' is darker and slicker than the previous outings

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban   PG
Alfonso Cuaron, (Y tu Mama Tambien) takes on the Harry Potter legacy in this take on the third book, where a mysterious supposed murderer, Sirius Black, has escaped from a wizard prison, and is after Harry, at the school. The protagonists, the children, are put through some interesting twists concerning the escape of Black and the introduction of the dreaded Dementers makes for classic spooky imagery. They’re like the angels of death. Pacing and direction is excellent. The darker outing is often listed as a favorite chapter in the series. Using time travel is an odd way to end it but that’s what happened in the book also. Some fans objected to there not being enough of the little nuances of the fourth book. Agreed. It would have to have been 3 hours long though.
