Review: 'The Spirit' is soulless rehash of classic old radio drama

The Spirit   PG 13
This spirit is soulless. Frank Miller's adaptation of the aged comic strip, Spirit, is a cross between his noirish carnival ride, Sin City and the 1990s flop flick Dick Tracy remake. Really Spirit should be the Shadow mixed with Phantom from the 30s. It shouldn't look like Sin City either. The original concept of Spirit being an actual ghost, (i.e . the living dead) and San Serif actually being the good girl, is tossed out the window. They confused her with another one called Gill. Then Gabriel Macht battles Sam Jackson in cutesy noirish dialog which comes out sometimes funny but mostly embarrassing, setting the comic book adaptation movie genre back a decade. Like the dreaded melted kitty scene, it's just all wrong somehow, like a bad episode of The Tick (an insult to the awesome Tick). Spirit must battle the evil Octopus for control of the city through a mythical set of boxes from the Gods which may make them immortal, but Spirit's ex flame is hot after those boxes also because she's turned into a greedy tart. Indestructible hero with X Men like healing factor clotheslines and smacks around crime lords for 2 hours. Not worth a rental. The single worst adaptation of a 30's comic strip since The Phantom in 1995, or worse.
