Review: 'Ghost Rider' is slick on effects but downright silly

Ghost Rider   PG 13
Marvel Comics has a thing for dark and brooding vigilantes, as with the whole "misunderstood youth empowerment through super powers" deal, and Ghost Rider is no exception to the rule. The biker with the flaming skullrides into live action in this intentionally campy and often silly movie version of the sagas of the "devil's bounty hunter", a man who sells his soul to the Devil so he can be the best stunt rider, and to avenge his family, not realizing that the bad guy who started this is the son of the Devil. If it weren't for the unintended laughs in this, it would be virtually incoherent. Nick Cage isn't convincing as an Evil Kenevil clone any more than he is a bounty hunter. Premise of hellfire covered biker makes a cooler metal band logo or shirt from Hot Topic than it would an actual guy. The bike even turns evil. Don't ask. Worth a rental but not to be taken seriously.
