Review: 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' is rousing mystery and dark finale for Dumbedore

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince   PG
David Yates takes the broomstick again for the sith Harry Potter movie, a rousing and very condensed take on the JK Rowling book, 'The Half Blood Prince.' Not nearly as chopped as his take on 'Order of the Phoenix' but still missing some crucial bits. In sublime summary, the story begins with a scene not in the book at all, with Harry and Dumbledore at a muggle underground train station, but then takes the action to Hogwarts via some character development and the setup for the four friends as lovers idea which will later come to pass in the seventh book...er movie. Yates spends a lot more time on the characters than on the book Harry discovers, which is the property of the Half Blood Prince, and that is sometimes a drag because he has nicked out some key stuff about the Prince, his memories, Snape's class, and various hints about the inevitable fight at the end. The acting is solid and even the newcomers get to chew scenery. It's great fun. The foursome is looking more like they're 20 than they are 16 (because the actors are 20) but still it's a suspension of belief since it's been nearly 9 years since this all began. Cheers to next time around at the beer butter pub.
