Review: 'The Lovely Bones' is graphic ghostly horror

The Lovely Bones   PG 13
Serial killer flicks usually don't really cut it and come off as missing something, but this one has a little too much eye candy and yet is actually interesting. Based on a novel, Peter Jackson's somewhat glitz heavy story languishes in the middle but is ultimately creepy and satisfyingly twisted. Don't expect good feelings from this one. Set in Philly in the 1970s, 14 year old Susie is killed by a psychotic neighbor, Harvey and sees her family's lives going on without her from an oddly overdone CGI in between place. The cast are relative newcomers, including the ghost girl, (what's her name)? and Harvey's creepy evil sadistic murderer is Oscar worthy. Even Whalberg, Weisz and Sarandon, who are known, are okay, but only just okay. The dramatic tenure and the horrific nature elevate the otherwise plodding, pretty but confusing middle act.
