Review: 'Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back' is excellent space Western endeing in thrilling ways

Star Wars: Episode V   The Empire Strikes Back   PG
Irvin Kershner's cool movie, Star Wars 2, is arguably the best movie of 1980, for scifi. The evil Empire has taken to their massive starships and plans to crush the rebels now hiding on an icy planet, Hoth, and then Luke goes to visit Yoda and learn to be a Jedi, on the swamp planet Degoba. Then the group goes to Cloud City for a final battle in a wild locale, and Treepio gets dismembered. Then after a battle with Vader, where they reveal, "I am your Father!" he loses his grip, literally. Luke hangs impossibly from the bottom of the city. Ha. Great stuff. The old master who ided in the first one had a master, so Luke goes to meet him and to learn the ways of the Jedi, to later face his ultimate destiny, Vader, who clearly knows something he doesn’t. The best of the series, this tale also takes Han and Leia to new romantic comedy heights, and to a destiny of another sort, when they go to cloud city and meet Han’s old buddy, and Vader!
