Review: 'Back to the Future 2' tries to restore history and isn't nearly as fun as original

Back to the Future Part II   PG
In the future, 2015, Marty and Doc accidentally allow their nemesis, Biff, to get a time machine and erase his 1985, so they have to back and and stop evil Biff and save the day. Not nearly as cool as the first one, and sometimes convoluted, the second movie seems to be trying very hard to please. Well, it's fun in parts. The 2015 part was done exceptionally and the funny nods to the 1980s were a delight, but some of it seemed a little too advanced, like hover cars and floating skateboards, although that would have been so cool! (It is now 2011 and the hover board is the size of a crate pallet, but give it time). The evil 1985 is a bit overly dark and twisted, and not as much fun, as they try for the whole destiny paradox thing, instead of the father one as in the first. When they go back to 1955 and relive events in order to find Biff’s future self, and get back the book that tells the future, the story seems more of a pale wink as the jokes from the first. Still it works as long as there is a sequel. The preview followed immediate afterward. They were filmed back to back, which was a new thing, in 1989. The reviewer was at the Universal sets as a teenager that summer. Awesome, but they had torn half of them down for Dick Tracy. Not so cool.
