Review: 'Daybreakers' takes a bite out of vampire myths

Daybreakers   R
Michael and Peter Spierig channel some Sam Raimi in this vampire flick taking place about 9 years in the future, after vampires have taken over the Earth but ironically are starving because they've consumed the blood of and transformed nearly all the humans. In a special but glittery research building, scientists are trying to come up with a human blood substitute, led by Sam Neill with fangs, but when Eathan Hawke with fangs encounters a rebel band of transformed hybrids, he is in a race against his own people to stop his former employer from killing random vampires to make his goals come true. A gore fest of a flick with plenty of splattering bloody fun for vamp fans, and dismemberment by cannibalistic vamps is always gross but fun for them. Good Halloween rental fare on DVD.
