G.I. Joe: The Movie G
GI Joe the Movie was so silly it was good. This 1987 answer to Transformers, from the year before, pits GI Joe against Cobra, from another popular cartoon series. Hasbro did both consecutively. But now, Cobra has joined forces with the evil Snake People, and they plan to destroy humanity by turning them into savages using alien spores. "Yo Joe!" The flick features the odd casting of Don Johnson as an upstart officer in the team, and commits to cartoon infamy the supposed coma of beloved hero, Duke. The series did not continue after the film, except for the update with DiC productions, years later, but it wasn’t as good. Many fans assume Duke actually died but the studio changed it because of backlash about Optimus Prime dying in the other movie, to be restored later in the final season. Since Joe had no final season, unless DiC’s version is counted as canon, Duke never appears again. He does in all later incarnations though.Review by Adam Browne
According to later commentary on the 2011 re-release of the film, the director did say they changed the post dubbing to say he was in a coma because of the Prime problem.
