Review: 'The King's Speech' is long but uplifting Oscar bait

The King's Speech    PG  13
On the eve of England's entrance into World War II, newly promoted King George VI must make a speech to the nation, after taking several classes with a unique speech coach. Prince Albert has a speech problem he must first overcome, not to mention the issue of his elder brother abdicating the throne. With sterling performances from Colin Firth, Michael Gambon and Guy Pierce, the drama plays out in a sensible and sometimes quirky way. The only unnecessary bit was the swearing bit, as without it the movie could have been PG. Carter plays Princess Elizabeth, mother of current Queen Elizabeth II, but not actually Queen Elizabeth I as she was from centuries before. This is because George VI was King. And now 70 plus QE2 liked it, so it must be good. Definite Oscar bait and it won.
