Review: Marley and Me' tries for comedy but is melancholy

Marley & Me    PG
David Frankle's adaptation of the novel. Marley and Me, is faithful to the book in many ways, but at times drags on with unneeded talking and drama. Wilson is good playing the sad sack reporter, (like his other sad sack characters) but was the author really that glum? The book was funny not glum. Not so sure that his performance is similar. Jennifer Aniston does decent comedy, but this is more of a drama about the family dog. The star should be Marley, the dog, which is the most untrained and untamed pooch ever, whereas his antics could have made the movie more of a comedy. Alt least the foreshadowing works, unlike in most pretentious author to movie adaptations. Worth a rental.
