Review: 'Stand By Me' is great story of boyhood adventure

Stand by Me    R
A cast of kids all destined to be big stars, save for the late River Phoenix, heads up this amazing coming of age story set in Castle Rock, a fictional town. Based on the Stephen King short story, The Body, this one takes the adolescent pack of friends into the woods to find the kid who disappeared, reportedly dead somewhere by the tracks. Great acting, period set pieces, 1950's America, and some of most sentimental yet fun moments ever set to screen, without being smarmy or cutesy. Not really a straight up comedy. Wil Wheaton's best role. Yes, that's the infamous Kiefer Southerland too. Walk down the tracks with the gang again. It's worth owning for the sheer nostalgia. Rob Reiner's slick and efficient direction of comedy is legendary here. Surprisingly the drama works also. The best movie of 1986.
