Easy A PG 13
Will Gluck directs a teen comedy poking fun at 'The Scarlet Letter' hence the 'A'. in the title, even though technically since the girl isn't sleeping with married men it;'s not adultery. Emma Stone plays a girl who through a little white lie about losing her virginity becomes the ostracized school tramp. (This would only happen in a small town like fictional Ojay, California). The lie blossoms into a web of disasters as she is involved in ever increasing lies where even people start giving her cast to pretend like they did it with her. 'Clueless' meets 'The Scarlet Letter' meets 'Sixteen Candles'...maybe. The story at time channels John Hughes and pays homage to his works, even with an updated boom box out the window scene, (it's an IPod with speakers now). The flick appeals to both x gen and their kids. Also in a way has a strong Pinocchio vibe. Great to see Amanda Bynes in something again. She does better as a co star, not the lead role, but she is still an under appreciated comedian and actress. Stone is good too. Go see it! Review by Adam Browne
