Review: '88 Minutes' is decent remake of DOA

88 Minutes   R
A decent remake of a twisty film noir movies from 1988 and 1981, and 1950, (of which the 1950 one is the best), 88 Minutes tells the story of a professor (who for some reason is also a forensics expert) who is taunted by a villain who somehow has injected him with a drug that will kill him in 88 minutes. Suspenseful up to the climactic CGI heavy end, and that's where it misses something. A movie should be good on its own merits without flashy special effects overriding it with bombastic score. Thuis it is in no way like the film noir original. At times it was like a hip hop video. A decent rental, if you're into remakes. If Hollywood is going to rip off something and change the title, they might as well spend the money on making a noir movie again and call it DOA.
