Review: 'The Emperor's New Groove' is not groovy in any way

The Emperor's New Groove    G
Note to aging hippy Disney execs: Groovy is no longer a good buzz word to get your target audience, little kids about 7 to 13. Yeah. Disney loses its groove in this ridiculously dreck that passes for a fun cartoon story, set in ancient Incan legend, American style, with people magically becoming llamas. Uhu. Spawned an even more horrid series, The Emperor's New School, and a direct to video sequel. The producers apparently through 'groovy' was a term still used by kids in the 1990s, and that changing a serious story into something about magical wisecracking llamas would work as a classic Disney flick. The story seems a bit like later Brother Bear in a way, crass guy changed into animal to learn about life, or Beauty and the Beast, same idea, but without the charm or and interesting princess, just John Goodman channeling Timone and Puumba from Lion King.
