Review: 'Harry's War' is the worst film of the 1980s

Harry's War    PG
This is one of the worst movies ever made. Keith Merrill's bleak story of a man fighting the IRS is just awful, truly dreadful, and the ending, one of the single stupidest endings ever. The premise is that his relative has wartime tanks and guns and things lying around, and that he can use them to fight the system, only to have the system fight back with reckless and often insane abandon, to eventually defeat him utterly and violently. This is such a poorly orchestrated ‘farce’ that it is almost a horror movie, and not a good one. It almost makes The War of the Roses look charming. If the director is trying to do a satire, why not let him win? It’s only a movie. It isn’t like any of this drivel is reality in any context. Actually for a review, it is possible this can get negative scores, because it was so awful and terrible. The IRS needs to be made fun of in a movie, but to end it like this one did makes the viewer want to crawl into a corner and suffer alone for years. Yetch!
