Review: 'I am Sam' is rediculous story about a simple man

I Am Sam    PG  13
Sure, Hollywood. Severely mentally impaired people make loving fathers. Right. (That's impossible). Sean Penn plays a very slow man who somehow becomes a father and has a kid, played by Dakota Fanning. He stands trial to get his child back from the State, or something convoluted like that. If he has the mind of a child, what's he going to do when she is smarter than he is? That's just silly. An all star cast comes along for the ride, including Pfieffer and Weizt and Dern even, but it tries so hard to scream "Give me my Oscar!" and toss a mental fit that it falls over itself in the telling. Aside from the ridiculous premise that Penn could be a good father, as a mentally challenged man, the story is just pretentious as all get out.
