Review: 'Masters of the Universe' lacks the power or budget but it's fun

Masters of the Universe    PG
Gary Goddard brings He Man, the poplar Filmation cartoon, to the big screen in this 1987 flick starring Dolph Lungren and Prince Adam, or He Man, the strongest man in Eternia. A cast of greats, including Frank Lagella, Courtney Cox (Family Ties, and years later, Friends), and Robert Duncan McNeil (Yes, the guy from Voyager, 8 years later), and Meg Foster are among them. This was a silly flick where He Man and crew are sent through the dimensions to LA (because they couldn't afford to make an Eternia set), and spend their time battling Skeletor in the real world. Surprisingly, the idea works, (unlike the later rip  off, Beastmaster 2 in 1991), Here it isn't just a cheap out, it seems to actually work to advance the story. So the plot is kind of silly. It's He Man. The series was way sillier! "By the power of Gray Skull!" Ha.
