The Onion Movie Unrated
Mike Maguire's demented
interpretation of current TV news and entertainment and the lines blurred
between them is a strange and often funny farce. Skewering Britney Spears, Fox
News, CNN and talking head news in general, the film lampoons everything and
everyone. Not nearly as funny as 'Kentucky Fried Movie' a generation ago, but a
worthy stepchild, 'Onion' is layered with satire. Old anchors like Cronkite and
Rather are ripped just as harshly as the new guys on the chopping block. It is
worth renting. But maybe not owning, as after you’ve seen many of the jokes
they don't do well repeated. It's no 'National Lampoon' or 'Not Necessarily the
News', but it's funny. Review by Adam Browne
