Jody Hill?s nod to the incoming
crazy of mall cop movies is pretty funny and twisted snd earns the R rating
quickly with crude jokes and cursing and a mall flasher moment as the catalyst
for the story. Seth Rogan (Superbad, Zack and Miri) plays loser chief mall cop
Ronnie Barnhardt in this offbeat comedy that paints a pretty pathetic picture
of security jobs or mall employees. Smitten for the hot blonde girl, Brandi
(Anna Farris from House Bunny) his character chastises everyone around him in
vain attempts to look cool in front of her, but when a flasher threatens the
safety of the mall, he uses the opportunity to trick the bubbly blonde girl
into liking him. When actual police are called into the case he becomes jealous
of detective Harris (Roy Liotta) and wants to join the force to show him. Also
he has a friendship with some of his underlings, including a lispy Hispanic
dude, Dennis (Michael Pena), one of two lispy men as the blonde has a lispy
friend also, and a coffee girl with a wounded foot, Nell (Collette Wolfe). He
takes advance from his drunken mother (Celia Weston from TV) who chews scenery
even more than he does. This rip off of 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' is actually
better than the other movie partly because it’s not for kids and is more
brutally funny. Rogen seems typecast as a loser either as a cop, a criminal or
a pot freak. Worth seeing and has good laughs.
