Review: 'Star Trek 3' is mystical restoration of the iconic adventure

Star Trek III   The Search for Spock   PG
The cliffhanger at the end of the previous flick sends Kirk and crew on a dangerous mission back to planet Genesis, to find out if Spock has somehow survived and been reborn there. Leonard Nimoy directed, so it was logical to bring the crew back one more time. And who can't like campy Commander Kruge stomping about? That was just nuts.Kirk and crew return to Starfleet and Earth where the ship is to be decommissioned to make way for newer ships, like Excelsior, saddened by Spock's sacrifice, but when Sarek appears and McCoy is acting weird, they figure that Spock put his mind inside the good Doctor, and should return him to Vulcan. Against orders, they steal the Enterprise and take it to planet Genesis where Spock has mysteriously been rejuvenated by the planet and is aging rapidly. Then the Klingons make a mess of things. The story is lofty and at times a little far fetched, but the fantasy is solid and it's more a human quest for friendship than a space opera. In the end, all is well, with the loss of the Enterprise and Kirk's son, David, who he barely knew.
