Review: 'Batman Returns' is a bit excessive but fun

Batman Returns   PG 13
Tim Burton's second outing as the herald of Batman, and a more twisted Michael Keaton, make for slightly more ghoulish fun in Batman 2, the sequel. Clearly channeling Dark Knight Returns and the comics, even the animated series of the time. Danny DeVito's best ghoulish role as Penguin. Michelle Pfeiffer is Catwoman (long before the dud with Halle Berry). This is just the cat's meow. "If she talks, throw her out a higher window!" Max Shrek, (before Shrek, and not related), is Christopher Walkin in a weird hairdo, as Penguin's bad guy buddy. Heh. Nicely done. The plot, Penguin has decided to double cross the Mayor and his cohort, Max Shrek, at the same time, so that they can rid the city of Batman.  DeVito is slimy and gross in this, literally. Burton goes for a bit more camp and goth paint this time around. Funny mistake of note, Penguins are not from 'arctic world' but are native to Antarctica. The arctic is the north pole. The antarctic is the south.
