Review: 'Saving Private Ryan' is great but at times uneven

Saving Private Ryan    R
Parts of this WW2 epic are genius, on the level of the Great War epic directors, like Kubrick, but other parts are slow and uneven, especially when something isn’t blowing up or a guy isn't shooting at another guy amid a half of bullets. Hanks is Oscar worthy for sure as a man sent to bring back a soldier because his brothers are dead. The first 50 minutes on the beachhead of Omaha (codename for a beach in France) is incredible, and the ending is great.    Review by Adam Browne
