Review: 'She's The Man' is gender bending comedy fun

She's the Man   PG 13
A modern take on Shakespeare, ‘Ass You Like It’, Amanda Bynes stars in this Channing Tatem flick where she disguises herself as a boy to play in the boy's soccer team. A cute movie. Teen girls loved it. Guys were a bit embarrassed to admit they also liked it. Coming of age Nick star Bynes plays a character that at times seems too much like the actress herself, but it’s all right. The flick has no real dramatic tension and doesn’t need it. It is basically a vehicle for the stars to show how funny they are, and sometimes there are genuinely clever lines and gender bending moments. Made a star out of Tatem who had been only an underwear model before. The reviewer attended a special screening in his city where he got some local news for packing a theater because he wanted the kids from his family church’s drama group and their friends to attend.
